WGDR! Live from Barre, Barre Pride Drag Queen Story Hour, The Singer's Room & More

houseThe Barre Social Club Jun 1, 2026

Happy Monday!

There is a lot on the schedule for this week and beyond, plus even more on the way.

You may have noticed a new platform outside our front entrance on Main Street. Outdoor tables and chairs will be back soon, with a new-and-improved level surface so you can (fingers crossed) enjoy the sunshine while sipping on a cold beverage.

And in case you missed it inside, we've revamped the retail shop. In addition to over 20 Vermont-based makers, we have expanded our inventory to include more books, kitchen and garden items, with a few vintage pieces sprinkled in as well.

Our hours this week:

Monday June 1: 7am-8pm

Tuesday June 2: 7am-6pm

Wednesday June 3: 7am-8pm

Thursday June 4: 7am-8pm

Friday June 5: 7am-5pm

Saturday June 6: 10am-6pm

Sunday June 7: Closed

“The Singer's Room returns in June to offer curated vocal artistry in laid-back cabaret style. Once again, the intimate Barre Social Club will host an evening where individual singers can stretch out artistically with a live accompanist — and where audiences can truly listen.

Held on the first Thursday of every month, The Singer's Room invites music lovers to enjoy good singing in a room that's conducive to nuance, storytelling, and connection. The June 4th program features a diverse lineup of rotating local and regional performers: your hosts John Harrison and Maggie Fox, along with Cat Allen, Amy Cavanagh, Joe Mueller, and Persis Worrall. Ira Friedman on keys.

Admission is $5 at the door for nonmembers. Beer and wine will be available for purchase, and you’re welcome to bring in something to eat from one of Barre's great take-aways."

Acting On-Camera with Annie Chang

Join us for a three hour master class in on-camera acting with Monday Nights Theatre Company founding member Annie Chang (Peacemaker on HBO, Interior Chinatown on Hulu; Wild Swans, The Young Vic, A.R.T, 4000 Miles, Studio Theatre).

Using a simple setup that you can recreate at home (one that Annie uses for her own auditions), learn film acting foundations as well as the technical skills that will help you perform confidently and creatively on-screen. Annie will assign participants an on-camera scene to workshop in class and offer coaching from the perspective of a working actor and experienced acting instructor with over 9 years of experience. On-camera participants will receive the footage from class to assist them as they continue to hone their craft and on-camera acting techniques.

Annie has a passion for bringing out her students best work, often coaching clients while they are working on films and tv series as well as helping them develop their talent into audition skills that book work. This workshop will also include a Q&A regarding the business side of film/tv.

p.s. Curious but not ready to perform in front of other people?  Don’t worry, you can reserve a sliding scale spot to still participate without performing on camera. Those auditing the class can ask questions and learn from Annie’s coaching, and may be asked to volunteer to read with those performing on-camera.

About Annie:

Los-Angeles based actor and director Annie Chang is a SAG-Aftra member and co-founder of Monday Nights Theatre Company where she will be directing Gruesome Playground Injuries this summer in Waterbury Center, Vermont (come check out the shows!).  Her credits include Peacemaker on HBO, Interior Chinatown on Hulu, and Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber on Showtime. She was selected for the ABC Diversity Showcase in NY and the NBC Diversity Showcase in LA.  Annie has been a series regular in television pilots with Fox and Showtime that never went to series, so nobody will ever see when she acted alongside Jane Krakowski, David Cross, Amy Sedaris, Rachel Dratch and Ben Schwartz.

In addition to her own performance career, Annie has been coaching actors for 9 years. Her clients can be seen across numerous major networks and streaming platforms. Fun fact: one client even included a vice presidential candidate of Taiwan!
