Summer is Here! Outdoor Patio, Taste of Barre & More
Happy Monday, and Happy first second day of Summer!
You may have noticed tables and chairs between the planters by the front entrance at 105 N. Main Street, including a set on the newly installed raised platform outside the conference room windows. Poles have also been installed for additional outdoor lighting to be added very soon.
If you happened to come by Friday evening, you may also have seen a few members enjoying a cold beverage on the patio to celebrate our new outdoor consumption permit. We’ve also been experimenting with a new slush machine, and debuted a frozen sangria last week.
But wait! There are even more signs of summer around the club because tickets are now available for Taste of Barre, presented by Passumpsic Bank.
Join us Thursday July 23 at 6pm to celebrate the food, wine, and culture of the immigrant groups that have shaped our community while creating a unique and elevated experience to launch the Heritage Festival weekend.
The event will feature special dishes from our talented friends at Pearl Street Pizza, Morse Block Deli, Vermont Salumi, AR Market and Fox Market, as well as a fun selection of beer, wine and cocktails in the theme of the evening.
If you haven’t already, Barre Social Club members can RSVP here to claim a FREE general admission ticket. All GA tickets include:
One commemorative 11x17 poster designed by local artist Rob Donnelly

Taste of Barre, Presented by Passumpsic Bank
Thursday July 23, 6pm
The Barre Heritage Festival & Homecoming Days is the Barre Partnership’s largest annual event. This celebration of Barre’s culture, history and community spirit has welcomed thousands of visitors for decades. Taste of Barre presented by Passumpsic Bank will celebrate the food, wine, and culture of the immigrant groups that have shaped our community while creating a unique and elevated festival experience to launch the Heritage Festival weekend.
Well known throughout the region as “The Granite Center of the World,” Barre boomed in population during the late 19th and early 20th Centuries as people came to work in the quarries and sheds, and to establish a new life. New arrivals from Italy, Scotland, Spain, Lebanon, Syria, Greece, Ireland, Sweden, France (via Canada), and elsewhere brought with them the flavors of home. They formed new neighborhoods, businesses, and clubs, excelled at sports and academics, joined established organizations, and in countless other ways helped to weave the social fabric of the city. As a result, Barre was also dubbed “The Most Cosmopolitan City in Vermont” by Vermont Life Magazine in 1947.
Of course, Barre’s history predates this period, and the community has continued to evolve. Thanks to the generous support of Passumpsic Bank, and in coordination with the Barre Partnership, local restaurants and food and beverage operators, this event will also highlight the indigenous peoples of Vermont, the early Yankee settlers of Wildersburgh, and more recent arrivals, including the growing population of immigrants from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We look forward to the first of what we hope will become an annual celebration of Barre’s rich history and its bright future: Taste of Barre, Presented by Passumpsic Bank.
Acting On-Camera with Annie Chang
Join us for a three hour master class in on-camera acting with Monday Nights Theatre Company founding member Annie Chang (Peacemaker on HBO, Interior Chinatown on Hulu; Wild Swans, The Young Vic, A.R.T, 4000 Miles, Studio Theatre).
Using a simple setup that you can recreate at home (one that Annie uses for her own auditions), learn film acting foundations as well as the technical skills that will help you perform confidently and creatively on-screen. Annie will assign participants an on-camera scene to workshop in class and offer coaching from the perspective of a working actor and experienced acting instructor with over 9 years of experience. On-camera participants will receive the footage from class to assist them as they continue to hone their craft and on-camera acting techniques.
Annie has a passion for bringing out her students best work, often coaching clients while they are working on films and tv series as well as helping them develop their talent into audition skills that book work. This workshop will also include a Q&A regarding the business side of film/tv.
p.s. Curious but not ready to perform in front of other people? Don’t worry, you can reserve a sliding scale spot to still participate without performing on camera. Those auditing the class can ask questions and learn from Annie’s coaching, and may be asked to volunteer to read with those performing on-camera.
About Annie:
Los-Angeles based actor and director Annie Chang is a SAG-Aftra member and co-founder of Monday Nights Theatre Company where she will be directing Gruesome Playground Injuries this summer in Waterbury Center, Vermont (come check out the shows!). Her credits include Peacemaker on HBO, Interior Chinatown on Hulu, and Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber on Showtime. She was selected for the ABC Diversity Showcase in NY and the NBC Diversity Showcase in LA. Annie has been a series regular in television pilots with Fox and Showtime that never went to series, so nobody will ever see when she acted alongside Jane Krakowski, David Cross, Amy Sedaris, Rachel Dratch and Ben Schwartz.
In addition to her own performance career, Annie has been coaching actors for 9 years. Her clients can be seen across numerous major networks and streaming platforms. Fun fact: one client even included a vice presidential candidate of Taiwan!
